About

My Bio

Hi, I’m a Christian, a husband, a father, and grandfather as well as a professional Engineer with more than 40 years experience and a photography enthusiast based in Melbourne, Australia. I’m passionate about the things I believe in and keen to share my experience with others. I was born in Glasgow, Scotland in the mid 1950s and spent the most part of my school years in Bristol, England. I emigrated to Australia in 1973 and joined the Royal Australian Air Force in 1974. After training as an electrical technician and spending 6 years in the RAAF, with postings to Wagga, Williamtown, Butterworth (Malaysia) and Richmond, I left and returned to the UK. After working for British Aerospace at Filton, Bristol, I joined GEC-Marconi and Shell Research in Chester. During this time I completed Bachelor and Master degrees in Technology, Engineering and Management and participated in a wide range of exciting and challenging projects from the development of ultrasensitive gas detection instruments for safety environmental monitoring through to design and implementation of offshore safety systems to the development of novel instrumentation for onshore oil and gas prospecting. I’ve worked with some incredibly talented people over the years and it has been a joy to be part of some leading edge developments in technology. One highlight of my time working for Shell was being a part of a team that set up a new technology centre in Bangalore, India, where I headed up the automation and instrumentation team for Shell Technology India. It was a unique and rewarding experience that leaves me with rich memories and lifelong connections. Although I’m now in the twilight of my engineering career, I still get a buzz out of being part of society that has a huge part to play in serving humanity and improving people’s lives. I’m still full of energy and aspiration get stuck in and to deliver quality work.
